I was recommended this place by multiple people, and I can understand why! I appreciate that we can order everything on our mobile phone, and the space is also quite large. The pig ears were so stinkin good, and I'd get them in bulk! I also got the noodle soup with belt noodles (I love how there is a motley of noodle types hahaha) and devoured the whole bowl.

Highly recommend the braised beef noodle soup with Chinese pickles! Portions are huge. I had the leftovers for lunch the next day. I got large flat noodles but next time I might try the small flat instead. Came on a Saturday night around 6:30pm and the wait was about 20 min. There's a waitlist you add yourself to and they will text you when your table is ready. The street is beautiful to walk around while you're waiting.

As the cool kids would say: the food here slays. It slaps. It's bussin'. There's just nothing quite like hand-pulled noodles. It's fresh, it's elastic-y, perfectly chewy, and just goddamn heavenly. I ordered the beef rib noodles with BELT flat noodles. I should've gotten the LARGE flat noodles (one size smaller) because I had a hard time slurping the wide noodles. To be honest, the noodles should've been named EXTRA WIDE noodles because it's really, really wide. Nonetheless, I had a fun time eating my dinner, even if I was struggling a little bit. The appetizers were just as scrumptious. I'd recommend ordering the cucumbers with a spicy & sweet garlic sauce and pork dumplings to share.

Popular spot in San Mateo downtown! We came on a Saturday night and by 7:30 they closed down the waitlist for reaching capacity. We waited around 30 min for a table for 4. I thought the noodles were very well done and had great texture, but the flavor of the broth felt a bit lackluster for me.

Great hand pulled noodles! There is a line - we got there around 7:30 and waited ~30 minutes. However service was fast! Portions are large - you can choose your noodle size (small / medium / large, and round vs flat). I got the beef noodle soup - the noodles were bouncy and the beef was tender!

Ordered delivery from here: tl;dr: Get the spicy wontons and skip the Lanzhou handled noodle. Lanzhou Handpulled Noodle (2-3/5): Surprisingly, their signature dish was the most disappointing of the night. The broth lacked depth and flavor. We ended up finishing the noodles using the braised beef broth. Braised beef with Chinese pickle (4/5): Nice braised beef and the broth had mild heat. Decent flavors, but not the best I've had. Pork dumplings with shrimp and chives (4/5): Solid dumplings and wouldn't mind getting again. Spicy wontons (5+/5): Holy cow, I didn't expect to be surprised by this dish. The sauce had the perfect balance of umami and chili oil. Wontons were also delicious. Probably the best version of this I've had and better than Ding Tai Fung's version IMO.

===TL;DR=== - Lanzhou handpulled noodles with regular round noodle type with spicy sauce ===TMI=== Fuss free simple menu, you're really there for their handpulled noodles. Clean, clear, and aromatic soup base simmered for at least 20 hours. Your choice of noodle type paired with slices of beef's, chili oils, radish - boom done. Noodles were fresh and bouncy. I've personally added more chili oils from the table and it was perfect. The only thing I was unsure of was if the spicy sauce you order is the same as the table one -shrug-.... Cause if it's the same, you can just order the original and add your own amount of chili oils. Add a splash of vinegar if you want to elevated the flavor profile. Simple as 123. They might have a line outside but it moves relatively quick.

I have Northern Chinese ancestry, and I guess that's one reason why I've always preferred wheat-based sources of carbohydrates, like noodles and dumplings, over rice. I've been eyeing this spot for years, and so happy to finally come here on a Saturday roughly around noon, and it was suuuuuuper packed and crowded. We put ourselves on the Yelp waitlist, and then walked around downtown San Mateo for a bit while waiting for our text. We walked for about half an hour, and even though they never texted us our reservation, when we went back and told them so, they were kind to bump us to first in line. While waiting, it was very fun and fascinating to watch the cooks create the hand-pulled noodles through the glass windows. We were seated in a tight corner of the restaurant. There's not a lot of seating available in this tight space, and hence the wait is always so long with long lines. We got beef noodle soup, sauce with pork, shrimp dumplings. I was very hungry, and the food was so good, I was very focused on savoring my food, so I hardly talked at all during the meal. Mmmmm, so happy to say I finally tried Ox 9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles!

Ox 9 has really great hand pulled noodle dishes and soup! After a weekend in Monterey my friends and I decided to stop by this noodle shop on our way back home and were comforted by the lovely depth of flavors and soul warming broths. As the portions are quite large, my boyfriend and I decided to share the beef noodle soup as well as a side of popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was average and a little too doughy for my taste, however the beef noodle soup was scrumptious! Pro tip they have chilli oil and chili flakes that amp up the flavor of every dish! Definitely recommend adding it to the soup. All in all, Ox 9 was a solid place for delicious noodles and soup.
